Paul Sacher (1906-1999), conductor and patron of the arts from Basel, is an integral part of the Swiss music scene of the 20th century. In 1922 he founded the Basler Jugendorchester which he later transformed into the Basler Kammerorchester. 1941 he initiated the Collegium Musicum in Zürich. As a member of Pro Helvetia's Group 1, the conductor is mainly in charge of concert tours abroad.

During the 1960s, the shortwave service of SRG broadcasts the programme Swiss Artists of the Concert Stage. In March 1966, the programme is dedicated to the conductor Paul Sacher.

Paul Sacher heads Collegium Musicum in Zurich from 1941 to 1992. After the Second World War Pro Helvetia frequently subsidises the Collegium’s concert tours abroad. 1954 it participates in the Edinburgh Festival, 1957 it tours in Latin America. 1974, Pro Helvetia contributes to a tour in Australia.
